6EDL7141
Three-phase motor control gate driver IC for battery supplied BLDC motor control
The MOTIX™ 6EDL7141 is Infineon’s 3-phase motor control gate driver IC that enables the development of high-performance battery-operated products using BLDC or PMSM motors. Applications include cordless power tools, gardening products, and automated guided vehicles. With over 50 programmable parameters using a built-in digital SPI interface, MOTIX™ 6EDL7141 is fully configurable to drive a wide range of MOSFETs to yield the best possible system efficiency.
The MOTIX™ 6EDL7141 is also designed for maximum flexibility. With an operating voltage from 5.5-60 V and configurable gate drive sink and source current up to 1.5 A, it has the ability to drive a wide range of MOSFETs effectively to best fit the application. It has an adjustable gate driver supply voltage setting between 7 V, 10 V, 12 V and 15 V even at low battery voltage thanks to built-in dual charge pumps. The MOTIX™ 6EDL7141 also has adjustable gate driver parameters to enable control of the slew rate to minimize system EMI. All of the 6EDL7141 settings can be quickly changed with the available simple-to-use GUI.
The integrated buck regulator requires only an external capacitor and inductor to provide power for both the microcontroller and the Hall sensors in the motor, further reducing peripheral components and the required PCB area. High-performance power tools often require high precision current measurements using accurate ADC reference voltage. MOTIX™ 6EDL7141 uses an advanced linear power regulator architecture powered by its internal buck converter to provide the best possible signal quality while optimizing power efficiency at any input and output conditions.
MOTIX™ 6EDL7141 also has a full suite of system protection features to improve system robustness in severe operating fault conditions. The threshold voltage and filter times of failure behavior are adjustable via SPI. Monitored parameters include motor voltages and currents, gate drive voltage and currents, device temperature, and rotor locked instances. The integrated SPI interface provides detailed fault reporting as well as adjust parameter settings such as gain options for the current sense amplifier, slew rate control of the gate drivers, protection features or gate driver voltage. This dedicated smart motor controller will improve overall reliability, increase power density, and provide the best possible system performance.
